Making new friends...

Saturday 27th March 2010 12:41

When we first moved to Hourtin, of course we didnt know a soul, and because our French language skills arent up to much, getting to know the locals was going to be a slow procedure. So naturally, we have been keen to meet up with some of the few Brits living down here.

Initially we were introduced to one couple via our local Optician, and then we met another couple our age, and we've recently met three more couples, all roughly our age, and either full timers down here, or like us, coming and going. Some of them are keen sailors and have similar little boats to ours on the big lake here, and this means in the warmer weather, we can have sailing get togethers as well as meet ups in our homes and the local restaurants. So for the week we have been here...we have been busy socialising every night. Fortunately, being in the Bordeaux region, wine is very affordable, with some very drinkable stuff coming from our local cave at around 1.30 per bottle...so entertaining drinks wise is perfect.

Food on the other hand is outrageously expensive, with a small chicken coming in around £12 and today I bought 5 smallish pieces of Salmon for £22!! Roughly twice what it would have been at home! Still, we are only here a few more days, so we'll be back to Lowestoft prices soon enough.

We will be photographing the new Rundholz linen next Thursday, and this will then be place online Friday or Saturday, so not long to wait now...if you are keen to view it.

My old trusty Pashley bike...

Thursday 25th March 2010 13:40

A couple of years ago, Clive bought me a bike with a battery, which means that if I choose to, I can opt for some assisted power when cycling. The bike still needs me to pedal, but if we are out for a really long ride and my knee starts to get tired, I can turn on the assist switch, and semi free wheel home. However, this bike lives in Suffolk most of the time, as we often cycle along the promenade at Southwold....and we didnt want to go to the bother of bringing it to France with us.
So this week, out of the shed has come my somewhat rusty old Pashley. I bought it new about 20 years ago, and love the sit up and beg seating position. BUT, have I missed the power assist!!!

Clive assures me , that puffing along under my own steam is 'good for me'...and he is right! We've been for several bike rides, and I'm pleased to say, I did it all myself!!

There are about 200km of cycle paths in our immediate area, and we can cycle off road from our front door. Aldo has a wicker basket to ride in, and we all go together, looking out for deer and wild boar.

Phew...did I just say that?

Tuesday 23rd March 2010 13:43

It is 2.45 in the afternoon here in Hourtin, and after a bike ride, I have been sunbathing in the garden.....and I've just had to come indoors, as I am too hot!!!! I cant believe it....only two weeks ago at home it was 2 degrees.

In a minute I shall be booking into stock all the new Rundholz....there is a lot of linen, and the girls at work are saying it is 'wow'! Particular good comments about the 'duster' style coat.

RUNDHOLZ LINEN

Monday 22nd March 2010 14:47

Just to say that a large delivery of Rundholz Black label linen was delivered today. The collection comprises, jackets, coats, dresses, trousers, and tunics in the basic shades of black, grey, asphalt and chalk.
Because Clive and I are away on holiday at the moment, we are not photographing this collection until we return to the UK just before Easter. So the only way to find out what is here, is to call the shop and speak to either Louise or Karen, or e-mail me. Please may I ask you to be patient if you do call the shop, as the phone ringing all day can sometimes be a bit tricky if we have face to face customers in store when you call. The girls will do their best to help you.

Clive is loading up more of the images from the last photgraphy session, so keep an eye out on the Consequent collection and Barbara Speers, as both will change considerably over the next 24 hours.

I am being lazy...the sun is shining, and other than making cups of tea and answering the e-mails...I've been flat out on the sun lounger. Lovely!
