Wild Birds, and Spring Stock

Sunday 24th January 2010 14:31

When we are working at home, we look out directly onto the garden and have positioned a large bird feeding station in direct view of where we are looking. Over the winter we have been busy making bird seed cakes, filled with dried fruit, various seeds and lard, and then I recently blogged about the success of mealworms. These really seem to attract a great variety of birds, and I have now ordered a big sack of them, which will hopefully see us through the winter.

Next weekend, the RSPB are calling for a birdwatch, and we will spend an hour monitoring the quantity and variety of birds in our garden for that....so that will be fun! So far our three cats seem too content lazing around indoors to be a threat to the birds, so hopefully our bird count will be significant.

As far as Walkers is concerned....you might be interested to know how much more stock we are expecting for Spring. From Oska we have masses more, we barely have anything so far...so several hundred pieces. From Rundholz, we are about half way on the whole order. From Flax, we have one third so far.

We have all the Grizas, and a quarter of the Barbara Speers. We also have good orders with 3 labels new to us, Senas, Consequent and Lunn (Liliths diffusion collection). So to sum up, we really do have a very large and diverse variety yet to arrive....and we expect more deliveries this week. We shall also have some more lovely dressy outfits from Elemente Clemente...ideal for Special Occasions!

Next week we shall be off to start the buying for Winter 2010. First off is the Rundholz showroom, and for me, the most exciting job. I can hardly wait to see what goodies lie in store for us....and I will report back to you, as soon as I have seen it!

Back again soon!

Your opinions please!!

This is a message from Clive...and he is hoping you readers will drop him a line. Basically, he is solely responsible for the pictures of the clothes that you see on our website, and he is wondering if you are happy with them? He isnt seeking any praise, but wonders from a users point of view if he is showing you all you need to see.

As many of you will know, we have just changed the website, and we continue to want to improve all aspects of our service to you, and because it is sooo hard to be critical of your own efforts with regard to the pictures, we are seeking your opinion. Clive is on clive@walkersofpottergate.com

Also, thank you to the ladies who responded to the research that Becky is doing for the Government, I'm sure she will be in touch with you soon, if she hasnt already.

A day off today!

Thursday 21st January 2010 18:04

Louise was in charge at Walkers today, and other than answering todays e-mails, I havent done much work. Clive has still been busy loading up the Rundholz new arrivals, and by the end of this evening, all the new bits should be showing online.
It has been a very grey day, and Aldo and I had a nice walk along Lowestoft seafront...there was only us two trotting along the prom, and we had a lovely time. We bathed him today...so he was looking very fluffy, and even better, he was smelling very sweet indeed!

I am watching the BBC news about the Haiti crisis....I am thinking what a terrible situation it is. Hopefully all the money raised around the world and all the assistance on the way by air will very quickly prove to be some help for them. One feels quite helpless when looking at the lives of those poor people.

Details about new Rundholz today.

We have a silk collection. The pattern is random checks, either black/cream or grey/cream. Or plain silk in grey or black. There are little sleeveless tunics which are wide, and ideal to wear over leggings or cropped trousers, and there are long or short narrow blouses.
Last year we had a terrific jacket from the main collection which was sold for over £600, this has come this year in the Black label, in simple cotton and is long at front and short at back, off shoulders, and sooo amazing at £180! Hurrah. Also some funky denim trousers...two lengths, both worn and washed looking.

Clive is just about to take the photo's and I will keep him going with food and drink until he gets the pictures online! Hopefully by Thursday they will appear!

When black isnt black.

Tuesday 19th January 2010 11:29

The other day, we sold a black skirt from our Summer 2009 Rundholz Black label, to a lady in Germany. Nothing unusual about that you may say....well since she received it, she has bombarded me with complaints to say that the skirt isnt black. It was a black polyester bustle skirt, and matched about 20 others that we had sold earlier in the year, also a number of matching jackets, all in the same fabric.
Well, this customer sent me photographs of the said black skirt, alongside other 'black' things, to prove her case, and although she was offered a full refund, she just wanted to carry on telling me that this skirt wasnt black....so we were terribly frustrated!

The thing is, different fabrics do come in differing 'shades' of black....some things are jet black, others are brown black, others are blue black, but they all come under the general banner of 'black'.

But this incident has made me wonder how we can improve colour descriptions. Although, we have full colour photographs of the colours of each garment, maybe more description isnt necessary. We actually take the pictures with colour cards attached to the goods, so we can get the finished picture as near to the actual colour as is possible....however, with all our varying computer screens, there is always a variation possible.

Broadband back again...business resumes!

I am relieved to say, that we are now fully connected with the outside world again! Hopefully, all the pictures of new stock can now be uploaded, so the Barbara Speers should be visible during the course of today.
