Well, we had planned a lie in, but the sun was streaming through the windows, so we decided to get up and go out for a long cycle ride, with the dog in the basket. We live 2 minutes from the beach, and there is a promenade to cycle along that goes on for a few miles right up to Lowestoft harbour.
We parked up the bikes and took Aldo to the waters edge, and then eventually made our way home for coffee and breakfast....so by 10, we had already had a great time.
Then we drove to Southwold and walked right along the promenade there, and stopped for a much needed hot chocolate! Rewards for all the exercise!
It is only 2.45 now, but we feel as if it is about 5pm, and so going to plough our way though the papers and make a start on supper. A really lovely warm Autumn day.....and I hope all readers have had as much fun as we have.
Just one drawback...it'll be dark at 5pm! Grrrr....
Today got off to a good start, as between 7am and 9am a new sofa was being delivered....we've waited 11 weeks for it to arrive, and even though it meant a very early start to the day, we were very pleased!
I went a bit mad and ordered a shade of lime green, and have been a bit concerned that it might be too bright, but it is lovely....so no worries!
All furnishings in the bedrooms are now crammed up various corners as the wallpaper stripping starts in earnest, and we're pulling off several layers of varying 70's and 80's style papers. We shall not be hanging more paper, as we prefer to keep the walls simply emulsioned...and probably tomorrow we will start painting.
Speaking of painting, my first Art Class was ok, I did a pencil drawing and a pastel picture....all very amateur, but quite therapeutic, and Heather and I have signed up for more! We wont be holding any exhibitions just yet though! or ever, I should think.
This afternoon, I am off to take up the offer of a standard flu injection....after seeing Clive soooo poorly a month ago with flu, I am happy to take anything that comes my way to minimise the risk.
Being self employed, it is a very expensive option to be off sick for days on end, and the shop has to be open, come what may.
Back again soon!
I have been pottering about at home today, as cant do much shop work on the computer as our Broadband connection is not yet installed. Anyway, tonight I am off to my first art classes for something like 35 years! How cool is that?.....I want to 'do' big pictures of abstract bold colour...hopefully my skills will meet up to my expectations!
Before I go though, I have Heather and Martin around for supper... (Sausages, onion jam and mustard mash!) Heather is also coming to art classes...so it'll be good fun. We'll see whether a couple of oldies can still push a paint brush.
Tomorrow I will have a decorating paintbrush in my hand though, as we shall start the first room in the new house.
Louise has been really busy in the shop during this first week of my holiday....do you ladies wait until I leave the store before you all flock in? I am beginning to wonder!!!
Over the years, we have been the first UK stockist of some leading European labels...and examples of such labels are Annette Gortz, Sonja Marohn, Rundholz and we were also the second or third shop in the UK to find Oska.
As time goes on though, it is increasingly difficult to find new ones...partly because the recession means there may be fewer new designers setting up, but also because there are a few more shops around the UK selling the sort of labels that we sell, and those owners are also prowling around the same circuits as I am.
So today was a bit of a result, as Becky has returned to London with the first order placed for our new 'secret' label, which we'll have in store after Xmas.
Bex was very pleased with the look of it, and it seems ideal for the Walkers world of playful, unusual, yet wearable clothes for our ladies who like something different! So we will keep you informed when the Spring collections arrive. We are also the only UK stockist of Albane Olika, and this designer offers very subtle draping and very classy fabrics. A kind of 'Shirin Guild' flavour to the collection, but with French over tones.
All this emphasis on unique labels is terrifically important to us....it has kept us separate from the High Street, and also separate from other independent fashion retailers....it means that we truly are stocking unique styles in this country, and that is what we are striving for.
